My personal creative journey and passion to explore new skills. I'm always with my sketchbook engaged in a variety of art and design projects.
Life Center Ethiopia - To Be The Light of Hope for the Hopeless - Widow and Orphan support since 2013. Began working with the Life Center in 2020 teaching drawing and computer skills.
Life Center Ethiopia- In the capital of Addis Ababa since 2013. The Life Center has sponsored 300 children with home based extended families. Currently working with over 400 widows with business training and micro loans developing small businesses. The second Life Center opened in the northern town of Sekota in 2015.
Sketch Book- "You are never alone when you can draw" - Truman 2018. Passionate about sketching with a ball point pen and a sketchbook. Equally passionate about teaching these skills to students of all ages and creatives wanting to communicate their ideas. I stress using a ball point pen and becoming fearless building confidence. Using a pencil is easy to erase but REPETITION is the best teacher and true creator of talent.
Fashion - I have always admired the style and enthusiasm of fashion designers and illustrators. I started sketching fashion models for my drawing courses focusing on the history of Coco Chanel and Gianfranco Ferro. I discovered several students at the Life Center Ethiopia desired to be fashion designers and models. I've been working on increasing my own model drawing skills to support their passion.
Paintings - I love the physical freedom and expression of painting. Painting and teaching watercolor painting is a lot of fun. When I teach Watercolor painting I encourage developing a spontaneous transparent painting style using the white of the paper for contrasts and highlights. Painting is a great way to keep loose and exercise our impulsive creativity.
Design Projects - Samples of work for myself, friends, and clients.
Sheet Metal Portfolio - I was introduced to fabrication on a NASCAR team and later developed my welding skills with the Food Processing Equipment Company. My mentor Robert Marianich 1939 - 2019, taught me a great deal about fabrication and inspired my appreciation for aluminum.
Ceramics - I have always been fascinated by the colors and textures of ceramics. I got started when I took a beginning wheel-throwing class with my wife at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Our teacher Kim Hau taught great techniques and I'm looking forward to working on future ceramic projects.
Light Imitates Art - Lighting is Art and with current technology a shape of a lamp has no limits. Here are a few hand crafted one-of-a-king creations developed with my partner and creative inspiration Caylynn Adams.
Wood Cars - Inspired by my grandchildren and their fascination with discovering how things work. I love watching them flip objects with the fingers, spinning or just moving something shiny. The car designs are inspired by my fascination with auto history, wood work, and 3D printing. A brief description is added to the bottom of the car.
Brief Bio - Youth instructor at the Urban Workshop, a 28,000 sq ft. maker space and education center in Costa Mesa, California. I teach the history of art, hand drawing skills and watercolor painting to the Saddleback Christian Academy and the Spirit Christian Academy home schooling groups. The Life Center Ethiopia is another destination and teaching computer graphic skills for a start up T-shirt business. I taught industrial design at the Art Institute of California part time for 12 years. Retired after 37 years as an automobile designer started working at Honda R&D in 1979 and graduated from Mazda North American Operations ion 2016.
